Baton Rouge police are investigating a shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
According to Chief TJ Morse, there is no threat to the public at this time.
Police have confirmed in the second update that there were six victims, one of whom has died.
Three of the victims are seniors at Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette, according to a Facebook post by Lafayette Parish Mayor-President Monique Blanco Boulet.
Additionally, five people are in custody at this time.
Police say they believe this was a targeted incident between two people who were arguing near the food court before shooting each other.
BRPD earlier reported that 10 people were injured.
Some of those victims are in the trauma unit and undergoing surgery at this time, said Morse.
Gov. Jeff Landry issued a statement on the shooting at the Mall of Louisiana:
“I am aware of the active shooter scene at the Mall of Louisiana. I am in coordination with law enforcement, and we will update as we know more. Please avoid the area. Sharon and I are praying for those affected and are grateful for a quick response by our law enforcement officials.”
The Mall of Louisiana has issued the following statement on the deadly shooting:
“We are heartbroken and angered that our shopping center was the location for today’s horrific incident.
We are working closely with the Baton Rouge Police Department and appreciate their leadership and partnership. We continue to assist with their investigation however we can.
This has been a frightening day for our shopping center community, and our thoughts are with all of those who were impacted by this senseless act of violence.
Mall of Louisiana is currently closed. We will share updates on reopening and operations as more information becomes available.”
This is a developing story.
