The Nicholls State University baseball team allowed Lamar University to record three hits in the Colonels’ 3-0 victory on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Friday night.
Starting pitcher Dawson Richard and relief pitcher Peyton Lacy combined for 10 strikeouts while allowing nine base runners in an efficient game. Richard struck out six batters and allowed three hits in six full frames of work to earn his third victory of the season. Lacy took over in the seventh and fanned four batters in three full stanzas to earn his first save of the year.
Following a scoreless opening inning, Nicholls (17-17, 9-9 SLC) got on the board in the ensuing stanza as Jaxon Milam blasted a one-out solo home run. Richard produced his third scoreless frame before Caston Thompson extended the Red & Gray lead with his own one-out solo home run.
After two more scoreless innings from Richard, Casey Artigues walked and later scored on a fielder’s choice to put the Colonels up 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Lamar’s relief pitcher Cooper Carlgren kept the Colonels off the board the rest of the game as he had six strikeouts and allowed one hit and zero walks in the final three innings.
