A man believed to be behind a major copper theft operation at the Esplanade Mall is now behind bars.
Investigators say Jason Chapman was behind a scheme where 200 feet of copper wire was pulled up, cut, rolled, taped and neatly staged for pickup. It was valued between $25k and $30k. Detectives say he used a pulley system to gather the copper.
Using FLOCK Safety cameras, detectives tracked a truck registered to Chapman and they were able to identify him as a suspect. He was arrested when detectives say he attempted to do another heist.
