The Slidell Police Department is investigating after an unauthorized alert was sent from a compromised fire department employee’s account.
According to the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No.1, the employee’s account on an emergency management program was compromised by an unknown source Wednesday night.
An unauthorized alert was sent from the account, but the contents of that alert are not known at this time.
According to Chief Chris Kauffman, the employee immediately changed their password and the investigation was turned over to Slidell police.
The Slidell Police Department said the investigation is ongoing, and no further details were available on the incident.
Kauffman issued the following statement:
“We at STFPD#1 also known as Slidell Fire Department are aware that one of our employee’s accounts on a emergency management program was compromised by an unknown source last night.
“This resulted in an unauthorized alert being sent out.
“We operate with full transparency and take this matter very seriously. We sincerely apologize for the content of the message.
“The employee’s password was immediately changed, and a full investigation is underway by multiple agencies including Slidell Police Department.
“The program is a tool used by multiple first responder agencies, including our agency, to manage emergencies and communicate with schools. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
