Rain or shine, the Gay Easter Parade has been lighting up the French Quarter for more than two decades, and Sunday’s gloomy afternoon was no different.
“I feel honored, privileged just to be among all these beautiful people,” said Jamie Dawson, parade participant with The Merry Antoinettes.
Gay Easter Parade celebrates LGBTQ+ fashion, creativity and self-expression.
“I’m surrounded by people who understand me, represent me, and who I’m honored to really know,” said Jakeel Abdullah, member of the board of directors for No Age, New Orleans Advocates for LGBTQ elders.
Parade organizers say all are welcome to join, regardless of whether or not attendees identify as LGBTQ+.
The parade began and ended at Rampart and St. Ann streets, lasting from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
