Elmer Chocolate, a company with a rich history of serving up even richer desserts, is hopping into the Easter holiday, and they want customers’ help creating a new treat.
Founded in 1850, the Louisiana-based confectionery has been working out of Ponchatoula since the 1970s. Last year, it was sold to a family from Florida but will remain based in Louisiana.
“It’s really giving us the opportunity to open up new channels,” said Rob Nelson, the CEO of Elmer Chocolate. “So as people look for premium indulgences, we’re going to create those products that people are going to love, just like Heavenly Hash and Gold Brick.”
While the economy has slightly impacted operations, the company remains optimistic.
“Dollars are probably up, and the volumes are a little down just because of the price of cocoa and things like that,” said Nelson.
Nelson said traditional favorites are still being rolled out in big numbers across the Gulf South.
“We have products in this region that have more volume than national products that are nationwide,” said Nelson.
Elmer Chocolate is also looking to expand.
“We’re always looking to innovate. Our innovation efforts have really been stepped up, and we’re doing a lot of new things,” said Nelson.
One of those new things is a new flavor of Easter candy, and Elmer Chocolate wants your input.
“If you want to be in on designing or have input on the next flavor of Heavenly Hash or Gold Brick, we’re doing some work there,” said Nelson.
This is another way the company is continuing to satisfy the sweet tooth of generations, like it has for generations before.
