He’s Back! Fired in 2022, Will Wade expected to return to LSU as men’s basketball head coach.
Wade issued a statement Thursday to his social media accounts confirming his return.
Wade said his return “is a chance to come home,” describing how special of a place LSU is to him.
Wade was fired after committing NCAA rules violations, but before that he took the LSU program from the basement to the top of the SEC, going 105-51 going to the NCAA Tournament three times, including a Sweet 16 berth in 2019.
Wade just finished his first season at N.C. State, where the Wolf Pack went 20-14 and lost to Texas in the NCAA Tournament First Four.
One of the reasons Wade is reportedly returning is because between his stops at LSU and N.C. State, he was the head coach at McNeese State in Lake Chares.
New LSU President Wade Rousse was the McNeese President while Wade was there and the Athletics Director was Heath Schroyer, who on Thursday morning accepted a job at LSU.
All this is happening while LSU still has a men’s basketball coach.
Matt McMahon is just 17-55 in the SEC over the last 4 years.
He has an $8 million dollar buyout if he’s fired this offseason.
