The Municipal and Traffic Court of New Orleans is warning residents of a “Notice of Default” letter scam.
The letter references alleged parking or toll violations, demands immediate payment, and is not issued by the Municipal and Traffic court and should be considered a scam.
According to the court, the document is attempting to create urgency by threatening legal consequences, including license suspension and collection actions, and includes a QR code directing recipients to resolve the matter.
The court is letting residents know they do not use threatening language, demanding immediate payment via QR codes or unofficial channels.
The following precautions are advised by the court:
- Do not scan the QR code or provide any personal financial information
- Do not make any payments in response to this notice
- Verify any suspected court-related communication by contacting the court using our official contact information
