The long awaited redevelopment of Lincoln Beach is continuing to move forward, with city officials saying the design phase is now about 60 percent complete.
The update was given during a New Orleans City Council meeting, where officials said consultants and contractors were brought on around November to help move the historic project ahead.
According to the city, the work has been divided into three separate packages for permitting and procurement purposes. Officials said construction bidding is expected to begin in the middle of this year, while the design phase is projected to wrap up later this year.
City leaders also said community meetings have already been held to keep residents informed, with another meeting expected in June as planning continues.
Council members praised the latest briefing, calling it one of the most detailed updates they have received on the Lincoln Beach project so far. They also stressed a commitment to transparency and said the public can expect regular updates moving forward.
Lincoln Beach holds deep historical significance in New Orleans. For many residents, the project represents more than a redevelopment effort. It is also seen as a long awaited step toward restoring a landmark with strong cultural and community ties.
As planning advances, city officials say they will continue working with consultants, contractors and community members to move the project toward construction.
