Louisiana State Police are investigating a chase that led to a crash that ended in New Orleans and resulted in the death of an unborn baby.
The incident happened on Saturday, March 7, shortly after 9 p.m. on North Broad Street underneath the I-610 overpass.
According to state police, troopers were patrolling the area of Elysian Fields Avenue and North Claiborne Avenue when they attempted to stop a Camaro for traffic violations.
Troopers activated the lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop, leading troopers on a pursuit while disregarding several traffic controls and traveling at a high rate of speed.
Police lost sight of the car but soon located the car involved in a crash on North Broad Street.
The investigation determined the car failed to negotiate a left curve on North Broad Street, traveled off the roadway, hit a previously downed telephone pole, and collided with the support pillar on the I-610 overpass.
The driver of the car, Caleb Ezidore, 26, of New Orleans, was arrested. He sustained minor injuries.
The front and rear-seat passengers were partially ejected and sustained serious injuries.
All three occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment, including the rear passenger, who was pregnant.
Medical staff delivered lifesaving measures, but the baby did not survive.
According to LSP, the Camaro was stolen from New Orleans on Dec. 4, 2025, and had previously evaded law enforcement during a pursuit on Feb. 14.
Ezidore is being charged with second-degree feticide, aggravated flight from an officer, illegal possession of stolen things, two counts of negligent injuring, reckless operation, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, improper lane usage, failure to signal, disregarding a stop sign or yield sign, disobeying a traffic control signal, and additional traffic-related charges.
