Dominican and Mount Carmel put on a show once again, but this time in the Division I State Championship game.
Dominican won the state championship game the same way it won the district title, on penalty kicks.
Dominican won 4-2 on penalty kicks
It was a very thrilling and entertaining showdown.
The game was scoreless going into the 23rd minute of the second half when Dominican’s Theresa Newburger knocked in a goal from 35-yards out to make it a 1-0 game.
The Cubs would respond seven minutes later when Sally Chapoton booted a left-footed goal to tie the game at 1-1.
The game would eventually go to penalty kicks.
Dominican goalkeeper Evelyn Aucoin made one crucial save, plus Mount Carmel’s final kick went off the crossbar to end the game.
Aucoin was named the games Most Outstanding Player.
This was Dominican’s fifth state championship and first since 2022.
