The New Orleans Police Department is celebrating a successful Mardi Gras season.
According to Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, the department made 185 arrests during the carnival festivities, including 31 felonies, 64 misdemeanors, and 18 weapon-related offenses.
Officers concentrated efforts between Calliope and MLK Boulevard, resulting in 34 arrests, including 11 gun-related offenses, with two stolen firearms seized.
“There were no violent crimes along the parade route,” NOPD Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said.
The chief stressed the impact of federal security, stating that having federal SEAR One security allowed officers to maintain a sharper focus.
She expressed hope for this level of security at future Mardi Gras events.
