The United Cajun Navy is standing ready to assist in the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY show host, Savannah Guthrie.
According to Brian S. Trascher with The United Cajun Navy, one certified search and rescue volunteer is in Tucson assessing needs for the search at the request of local volunteer groups.
Trascher said the volunteer is meeting with a Texas search and rescue team that helped find a missing Oklahoma boy, Ryan Davis.
According to Trascher, the United Cajun Navy has submitted a capabilities statement to the FBI and sheriff in Tucson, but have not been requested to help in their search.
Trascher said the Guthrie family has also not requested their assistance.
According to Trascher, if the search and rescue volunteer does mobilize with local volunteer groups, it would be for search efforts outside of Tucson.
Trascher said if the FBI or sheriff involved in the search asks them to leave, they will.
This comes just two days after the Pima County Sheriff’s Office asked volunteer groups to give them space to conduct their investigation.
Guthrie went missing on Jan. 31 from her Tucson home.
This is a developing story and will be updated with new information.
Note: An earlier version of this story stated that the United Cajun Navy was assisting in the search at the request of family and friends. This has been corrected to reflect the local volunteer effort.
