The Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club said it is investigating an incident in which a rider on Float 26 allegedly threw a bottle of alcohol from the second level of the float and struck a four-year-old child.
Zulu leaders said they are “deeply disturbed” by the report and expressed concern for the child and the family. The organization said the safety of children, families, paradegoers, and the public is its highest priority.
According to Zulu, the behavior is a clear violation of the organization’s policies and parade safety rules. Officials said Zulu has zero tolerance for conduct that puts people at risk or undermines the group’s traditions.
Zulu said it is working to identify the person involved. The club said it will take appropriate action under its disciplinary procedures and in line with any applicable laws.
The organization said it views the incident as extremely serious. It said unsafe conduct does not belong in its parade, culture, or membership.
Zulu said it will release more information when available.
