On Feb. 12, 2026, shortly after 6 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 90 near Cypress Drive in Lafourche Parish. The crash killed 52-year-old Kenneth McMillan of New Orleans.
Troopers said McMillan was driving a 2023 Toyota RAV4 east on Highway 90. A 2021 Chevrolet Colorado was heading west. For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota left the road, crossed the median and hit the Chevrolet head-on.
McMillan suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. The Chevrolet driver had moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital outside the area. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Troopers collected toxicology samples from both drivers. The crash is still under investigation.
Later that morning, shortly after 10 a.m., Troop C began investigating a crash involving a cyclist on Louisiana Highway 1 near Bayou Vista Drive. The crash killed 61-year-old Wayne Mayet of Thibodaux.
Troopers said Mayet tried to cross Highway 1 from the southbound shoulder to the northbound shoulder. For reasons still under investigation, he did not yield and was hit by a 2025 Ford F-450 heading south.
Mayet suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. He was not wearing a helmet. The F-450 driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
The driver showed no signs of impairment and gave a voluntary breath sample that showed no alcohol. Troopers collected a toxicology sample from Mayet. The crash is also still under investigation.
