The 56th annual greasing of the poles at the Royal Sonesta in the French Quarter kicked off Carnival on Friday.
The poles were lathered in Vaseline to prevent people from climbing them during the final stretch of the festivities.
People from all over the world come to see this event.
Local celebrities, including Amanda Shaw and Ron Orleans, participated in the event, using Vaseline to grease the poles at the Royal Sonesta.
The winner of the 2026 Greasing of the Poles was fiddler and singer Amanda Shaw.
