After accepting the football head coach position at the University of Florida, Tulane will allow Jon Sumrall to remain the head coach of the Green wave and finish the 2025 season.
STATEMENT FROM DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS DAVID HARRIS
TODAY, I WAS INFORMED BY JON THAT HE HAS ACCEPTED THE HEAD COACHING POSITION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA. I WANT TO EXPRESS OUR HEARTFELT APPRECIATION FOR JON’S LEADERSHIP, HARD WORK, AND DEDICATION TO GREEN WAVE FOOTBALL OVER THE PAST TWO SEASONS.
DESPITE THIS TRANSITION, COACH SUMRALL HAS ASKED FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE LEADING OUR PROGRAM IN ITS PURSUIT OF AN AMERICAN CONFERENCE TITLE AND A CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF. THAT REQUEST HAS BEEN GRANTED.
WE HAVE ALREADY INITIATED A COMPREHENSIVE SEARCH TO FIND OUR NEXT HEAD FOOTBALL COACH, AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO IDENTIFYING THE RIGHT LEADER TO GUIDE OUR PROGRAM INTO THE FUTURE.
WE WISH JON, GINNY, AND THE ENTIRE SUMRALL FAMILY ALL THE BEST AS THEY BEGIN THIS NEW CHAPTER.
David Harris
