A 16-year-old from Hammond has been arrested for bringing a gun and drugs to school.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested the teen for one count of carrying a firearm by a student on school property, possession of marijuana, firearm-free zone, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug-free zone.
On Monday, a resource officers at Hammond High School were made aware that a student suspected of being under the influence of drugs had marijuana, THC, a vape, and a stolen handgun in his school bag.
The student was arrested and all illegal items were removed from the school.
The campus was placed on lockdown during the investigation, but TPSO said at no time were any students in danger.
