Thousands of people protested at the “No Kings 2.0” Rally in New Orleans.
Many held signs with messages and chanted, hoping to make their voices heard.
“We’re here lifting our voices that the Constitution should be paramount, not king,” said Alanah Odoms.
Protestors say they were rallying to push back against recent moves by the Trump administration, including the President’s immigration crackdown in several major cities and plans to send federal troops to Louisiana.
“I myself am an Army veteran, and I would never believe that responsibilities are to police the American people; my responsibility is to protect the American people,” said Gideon Vicini.
The rally in New Orleans was just one of 10 hosted across the state on Saturday.
As the government shutdown enters its third week, protestors say it’s now more important than ever to take a stand.
“We don’t need billions of dollars going into ICE; we need money in health care, in schools,” said Rachel Taber.
“We’re concerned about protecting voting rights, protecting the rights of the immigrant community, making sure everyone has those fundamental public rights that we want to make sure everyone has,” said Odoms.
Protestors say their work is not done yet and they will continue rallying for change.
