There might not be a high school in Louisiana lighting up the scoreboard quite like Country Day.
The Cajuns are averaging nearly 50 points per game in part due to some familiar last names.
Country Day, a part of the ties that bind famous local sports stars and their sons.
Saints legend Deuce McAllister and his son Curtis. Former NBA player and current Pelicans assistant coach Corey Brewer and his son Kellen.
Playing football for the first time, Kellen Brewer is making an immediate impact for the Cajuns. He’s scored 8 total touchdowns this season, including 2 Friday night.
“It’s fun for me. I played football in high school, but just to watch him, he’s scoring touchdowns and I’m hype like I scored,” Corey Brewer said.
“It’s amazing being a dad and watching your son.”
Following in the footsteps of his father, Curtis McAllister. His dad, Deuce, a Saints Hall of Famer and one of the best players to wear Black & Gold.
Just a sophomore, Curtis is a contributor. 26 receptions, 502 yards, and 5 touchdowns this season.
“They know how to work,” Country Day head coach Ben Powell said.
“They’ve seen elite performance. They’ve grown up in those kinds of households where they have high expectations, and they bring that to the field,” Powell said.
Curtis McAllister and Kellen Brewer won a basketball state championship together just 7 months ago.
The pair sharing the court, now sharing the football field, and sharing this unique experience.
“It’s great just because he has somebody else who’s going through the same situations, going through the same things he’s going through. They’re good friends, so that helps on the basketball court, on the football field. That’s his boy,” Corey Brewer said.
“Deuce is great. I love Deuce. He welcomed me to New Orleans. For me, I played professional. Deuce played professional. To see our kids get to be kids, I think that’s the best part,” brewer said.
Curtis McAllister was sidelined Friday afternoon after taking a helmet to the shin. Coach Powell said McAllister could’ve played but felt good about what he was seeing from the rest of his team.
Country Day has won 4-straight games.
