A New Orleans inmate mistakenly released in July is back in custody at the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
Khalil Bryan was captured in Texas on August 20. He was extradited back to Orleans Parish on Thursday.
Bryan was mistakenly released from the Orleans Parish jail on July 25. Texas law enforcement confirm that he was arrested in Harris County around 10 a.m.
According to the Harris County Constable Precinct No. 5, Bryan was arrested in the 14600 block of Keystone Green Drive.
Officials say he tried to escape from a window of a home but was found and arrested. Bryan was treated for minor injuries and booked into the Harris County Jail. Two other people at the location were also arrested on unrelated warrants.
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office said Bryan was incorrectly released due to a misidentification between two individuals with a similar last name.
The charges against Bryan include illegal possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer.
He also has an active warrant from Criminal District Court Section H for aggravated assault with a firearm, domestic abuse, child endangerment and home invasion. He was also being held as part of a warrant in Jefferson Parish.
Sheriff Susan Hutson fired two deputies and suspended five others in connection with the accidental release.
