A man linked to the death of a woman found in a field cannot be located by the courts.
Antoine Thompson was not in court Friday morning.
The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office is now trying to track him down. This is Thompson’s fourth missed appearance, and he is expected to be served.
Investigators say Thompson is the man who left Danielle Leviege in a Gentilly field after she overdosed.
After a WDSU investigation aired this year, prosecutors are seeking more jail time for Thompson under the habitual offender law.
Leviege died in 2021. Her mother says she was found in a Gentilly field “like a piece of trash.”
Earlier this year, her mother contacted WDSU seeking answers. She has been desperate for closure.
Court records show Thompson said he left her there because he did not want to go back to jail. Thompson is out on probation for obstruction of justice.
A WDSU investigation uncovered chilling body camera footage capturing witness statements at the scene.
“She looked dead,” one man says in the footage. “Her face blue. I just saw dragging on the side. I thought it was trash.”
WDSU spoke with Leviege’s mother, Yolanda McPherson, after court Friday.
“I am continuing to seek justice for my daughter,” McPherson said. “I’m just going to watch the legal system as everything happens. My daughter mattered. Her story mattered. I’m keeping this all in prayer. God is the final judge. Justice will be served. I’m praying every day.”
Thompson’s public defender says they do not comment on open cases.
Investigators say Thompson is expected to be arraigned on the multiple offender statute, and his probation status will be addressed.
Stay with WDSU on this developing story.
