The former governor of Louisiana has evacuated from his home after a plant explosion was reported in Roseland Friday afternoon.

According to a family associate, former Gov. John Bel Edwards and his wife have evacuated outside of the evacuation zone after an explosion at Smitty’s Supplies.
Edwards’ home was within the mandatory evacuation zone.
The family associate said Edwards and his wife are safe and monitoring the situation.
Residents are asked to relocate immediately and stay away from the area until further notice.
According to the sheriff’s office, Highway 51 at Highway 10 is closed after the explosion was reported at a nearby business.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
