New Orleans restaurants are welcoming back a summer tradition, Coolinary, in hopes of a boost in sales.
Coolinary menus offer two-course lunches at participating restaurants for $28 or less and some three-course dinners for $58 or less. The goal is to increase sales for local eateries during the slower months.
According to New Orleans and Company, this year, more than 130 restaurants will participate, and for the first time, bars will offer specialty drinks and prices.
The Louisiana Restaurant Association could not confirm if there has been an uptick in New Orleans restaurant closures, but in recent months, more than a handful of businesses have shut down due to different reasons, such as an increase in rent or construction restricting customers.
Austin Levy, who owns Biscuit and Buns, says Coolinary drives a 20% increase in sales during the slow summer months. Levy says restaurants are desperate for customers as business slows down in the summer.
“Coolinary is extremely helpful for us. It helps us keep all of our staff intact; we don’t have to worry about layoffs, cutting hours. It’s amazing,” said Levy.

The special offers will be available from Aug. 1-31.
