A Slidell girl is asking for your vote to win the Jr. Ranger Competition sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation.
Averi Lodriguss is 8 years old and loves the outdoors. She enjoys spending time exploring trails, finding wildflowers, and learning about animals and plants.
She is currently a quarter-finalist and is up against 1,300 kids across the country to be the next Junior Ranger. Averi’s mother, Shea Lodriguss, says a huge part of her daughter’s votes came from their church family.
“I think people can kind of overlook when they are looking for like ‘oh my kids, where is that village I’m looking for?’ for us that village has always been in my local church. I feel like when you hear about Louisiana’s nature, you only hear about alligators and swamps, and there’s more to it than that,” said Shea.
If Averi wins, she will earn $20,000 and be featured in the Ranger Rick magazine.
