A young girl with ties to Baton Rouge was killed during the Texas flood, according to the St. George Catholic Church.
The church identified Lainey Landry, 9, as one of the victims in the flooding near Camp Mystic.
St. George Catholic Church said Landry was related to two parishioners at their church
The St. George Church issued a statement on their social media page about her passing:
“With deep sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Lainey Landry, the beloved 9-year-old granddaughter of Brenda and the late Henry Landry. Lainey’s young life was tragically lost in the recent flooding near Mystic Camp.
We ask our St. George Catholic Church family to hold Lainey’s parents, Ben and Natalie Landry, and her cousins, Graham and Hallie (parents, Will and Stephanie Landry) —students at St. George Catholic School—in your prayers. Please offer a Rosary for the families seeking comfort, strength, and healing as they grieve the loss of their children.
As we mourn Lainey’s passing, we also lift up the families of the ten young girls who remain missing in the wake of the flood. May God surround them with hope, courage, and the unwavering support of a loving community in this time of deep uncertainty.”
At least 109 people are dead across six counties. In Kerr County, officials reported the deaths of 57 adults and 30 children as of this morning.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said 161 people have been reported missing. “We will not stop until every missing person is accounted for,” he said.
