Louisiana Task Force 2 and Louisiana Task Force 3 have been deployed to Texas to support ongoing emergency efforts in response to the flooding in Kerr County.
The task forces include personnel from the Baton Rouge, Zachary, West Feliciana, East Side and Shreveport fire departments.
The team will bring specialized training and equipment to conduct swift water rescue and urban search and rescue operations.
“Once again, when our support is needed, our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams step up without hesitation,” said DPS Principal Assistant Bryan J. Adams. “Our dedicated Louisiana firefighters are on their way to assist with the tragic flooding scene in Texas. I am incredibly proud of our teams and their unwavering willingness to stand alongside our sister states in times of need. We are truly ‘One Team.'”
Rescuers have been searching the area to locate survivors, including 27 girls who have not been seen since their camp was flooded.
The death toll from flash floods rose to nearly 70 on Sunday after searchers found more more bodies in the hardest-hit Kerr County. The victims include children who were camping along the Guadalupe River banks.
Most of the deaths coming in Kerr County in the state’s Hill Country. Besides the 59 dead in Kerr County — 38 adults and 21 children — additional deaths were reported in Travis, Burnet and Kendall counties.
