Tropical Storm Chantal continues off the southeast U.S. coast and has strengthened. As of 1pm, the storm has winds at 45 mph, and it is drifting slowly to the north at 7 mph.
What we know:
- Chantal could continue to strengthen before landfall.
- It’s forecast to make landfall in South Carolina late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
- Rainfall accumulations of 2-4in with locally higher amounts of up to 6in are possible along the coastal sections of the Carolinas through Monday.
- Tropical storm conditions are expected from South Santee River, South Carolina to Surf City, North Carolina.
