UPDATE: The boil water advisory for Uptown New Orleans was cancelled Monday afternoon
PREVIOUS: The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for a portion of the city due to a water main break.
The advisory affects the following areas:
- South Carrollton Avenue from South Claiborne Avenue to the river
- South Claiborne Avenue from South Carrollton Avenue to Jackson Avenue
- Jackson Avenue from South Claiborne Avenue to the river
“We got some water because we were scared. We normally drink water straight from the tap,” said Xavier Blanco.
Blanco, a Tulane student, bought bottled water out of precaution after the Sewage and Water Board issued a boil advisory.
“When we woke up, we saw that there was no water coming out, like the water pressure was really low,” said Blanco.
Many residents said they woke up to extremely low water pressure Saturday morning.
The Sewerage and Water Board says water pressure dropped after a water main break on Upperline Street.
“Can’t wash your hands, you can’t really use the restroom, we had to hold it we did walk and travel out to use the restroom,” said Briand Russell.
The Sewerage and Water Board said water samples will be tested before the boil advisory is lifted.
SWBNO said they have made progress isolating the location of the water main break, and water pressure is beginning to increase across the impacted areas.
Customers will start to notice an improvement in water pressure and some may still experience a lower-than-normal levels as repair operations continue.
