Residents in Jefferson Parish could get a payout after the parish settled two lawsuits for $4.5 million each.
Jefferson Parish invested more than $10.4 million between 2018 and 2021, to address
deficiencies detected at the landfill to make the site compliant with required regulation and further upgrade the existing landfill infrastructure.
This includes major enhancements to the leachate removal and gas collection systems, installations and expansions of gas wells.
As of Jan. 2021, the River Birch Renewable Energy took over the management contract and assumed full operational and maintenance responsibility for the landfill through 2037.
