I-10 Westbound traffic came to a standstill Saturday morning after two related crashes involving a total of eleven vehicles blocked all lanes on the Highrise Bridge.
According to emergency traffic officials, the first accident happened in the left lane and led to a secondary crash.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says MAP units responded and shut down I-10 West at the Highrise while diverting drivers to the Louisa Street exit.
New Orleans EMS transported three people to University Medical Center.
Both New Orleans Fire Rescue and police were also called to the scene.
A tractor trailer was involved in the wreck, and tow crews have been called, though there’s no estimated time for reopening the interstate.
I-10 West on the Highrise Bridge in Orleans Parish has reopened.
